Politeness in an Educational Context

Human daily social interaction is anchored in interpersonal discourse, and linguistic politeness thus vital to our everyday language including face-to-face computer-mediated communication. Politeness conventions emails are not being taught students seem be a work-in-progress. In power-asymmetrical context such as student-teacher interaction, requests pragmatically demanding, complex, inherently face-threatening acts (Brown & Levinson, 1987). Little research has been conducted on face-saving produced by sufficient number of participants. This paper attempts investigate requestive written English Saudi directed instructors belonging the same academic institution. The study examine how female employ composing their emails. more detail, it aims students’ use email openings closings uncover different devices employed both, address term’s presence/absence formality/informality. Results show that most (97%) current data opt for an opening pre-request, while only 72.5% include closing.
